How does coaching work?

Coaching is a supportive and generative partnership. Employee clients are invested in their ongoing development journey, accountable to themselves and their goals. Clients approach the coaching process with an open mind and a commitment to honest exploration and reflection.

As a coach, I cultivate a space of safety and empathy and use deep listening, reflection, and guided inquiry along with evidence-based strategies to help employees uncover the best path toward their unique development goals. Together we co-create a flexible, yet concrete action plan to help them achieve these goals, tracking progress as they go.

Because coaching is confidential and non-judgmental, employees are free to express fears, concerns, frustrations, wishes, hopes, and goals without reservation, receiving unbiased guidance in return. This results in a deeply trusting and generative coach-client relationship.

Coaching topics range from the professional to the personal, expanding into territory that may not be accessible to most managers. Through coaching, the company is able to truly support the employee as a whole person, while simultaneously improving the bottom-line. Improvements in employee well-being and development feed into their presence and performance in all areas of their lives including the workplace.

About your coach

Kate DiMercurio
Certified Integrative Health and Wellness Coach

I am a board certified Integrative Health and Wellness Coach with one master’s degree in Integrative Health Studies and another in Public Administration. I have a diverse background working in fast-paced Silicon Valley tech startups, as well as the slower, more deliberate world of nonprofits and international development. My varied experience in product, program, and people management, as well as operations and education crystalized a desire to offer my skills and abilities in service of the development, growth, and well-being of others.

In my coaching practice, I work with clients to address and understand the root causes of any personal or professional challenges impacting their ability to grow and thrive. I take a holistic approach, acknowledging that the personal impacts the professional and vice versa. From this foundation, we co-create a concrete action plan that helps clients achieve their goals and experience meaningful development. I create a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can explore and experiment, adjusting behaviors as they design and implement sustainable habits that lead to personal and professional growth and well-being.

What clients say…

  • Kate is so nonjudgmental and compassionate that I felt safe revealing my underlying beliefs that we could work through. She was excellent at highlighting strengths and patterns to design effective plans for change. I felt supported and encouraged through the whole process and was able to shift into a much more positive mindset about myself and my ability to change, which sustained me throughout and after our time together

    Olivia

  • Coaching helped me unlock tools to make real progress with work challenges, and be a better co-worker, manager, and individual. Learned a lot about myself and strategies to implement in work and personal life.

    James

  • First and foremost, Kate does a great job of making you feel comfortable and un-judged while you open up to her about your goals. She is a great listener, with an impressive ability to connect complicated dots and bring themes and ideas around full-circle. After only 4 sessions, I have been able to identify my goals, strengths and weaknesses that support/hinder them, as well as a toolset that will help me achieve those goals. Highly recommend!

    Marie

  • My coaching experience with Kate was great, she has helped me further organize my department and set realistic palatable goals for the next year. I would recommend her service to any working professional.

    Eric

  • Kate's coaching was super helpful for me! She coached me during a time of immense change and uncertainty in both my personal and professional life. She helped me look at my challenges more holistically and see where I was already doing really well. She helped me identify and play to my strengths in tackling these challenges.

    Clare

  • We grew from 5 to 35 employees over an 8-year period. Some of our managers are new to managing and they enjoyed having an unbiased sounding board and coach to help them.

    Noah

  • We recently combined our non-profit organization with our for-profit subsidiary into one company. As a result, change was drastic and the pace rapid.

Change is not easy, and people deal with change differently. Some of our employees struggled with anxiety over the situation; some staff suffered with productivity; others were uncomfortable sharing ideas in team meetings because of the culture shift. Our team quickly identified a need to provide employee support during this transition in a practical and empathetic manner. That is when we were lucky enough to find Katy J Health and Wellness.

Our organization had never worked with a professional coach before. We were hesitant to make it available to all employees without participating in a pilot program first to see if this would be a viable support system for staff. Katy J walked us through the program and how it worked. She explained each step of the process in detail and was flexible with scheduling since we were close to the holidays.

Five employees participated in the pilot program and would meet with Katy J once a week for an hour over five weeks. Our organization purposely left the coaching goals up to each participating employee because it was essential for us to allow them to focus on the areas they felt impacted them the most. Katy J accommodated each employee's unique goals with a customized and meaningful coaching experience.

Katy J had the employees take a general survey before and after the coaching sessions. Katy J then summarized the results into a report. The results were astounding! Many employees felt they improved their ability to handle stress, adjust to organizational change, and learn to communicate more effectively with managers and peers. More importantly, each employee thanked us for allowing them to work with Katy J.

Each employee felt that Katy J provided a safe, judge-free space for them to share concerns. They thought she was empathetic, kind, a great listener, and well-informed on overcoming particular challenges they brought up. They valued the take-home exercises because they provided an easy way to put their feelings into perspective and identify action steps.

We sincerely appreciate the coaching Katy J provided our employees. We highly recommend her coaching program and look forward to working with her again for more employee development.
